Wellbeing & Development

Many of the people we support have had chaotic lifestyles and difficult housing histories, with physical and mental wellbeing a major concern.

In the first instance, a hot meal, shower and change of clothes can make an immediate difference, but our tailored support plan aims to help each individual improve their wellbeing, self-esteem and opportunities.

We work closely with partner agencies specialising in addiction and mental health and they have team members based at the Hope Centre. Where appropriate, they can offer specialist support to our service users without them feeling passed from one place to another.

We also have medical specialists visit and use our Medical Room to dress wounds and advise about health issues.

Our volunteer hairdresser visits every month to provide free haircuts to our service users and we always have supplies of toiletries and sanitary products available for those who are in need.

Our Education and Skills Programme includes a range of activities and educational classes that are aimed at providing enjoyment, a sense of achievement, self-esteem and improving opportunity and real-world practical skills.

The programme is headed up by our Education and Skills Officer Stacey, who will often be seen chatting with service users in our Prevention Hub to encourage them to “give it a go”. Sessions are sometimes in a small group and at other times on a one-to-one basis and Stacey is ably assisted by other education specialists and volunteers.

This programme has given so many service users a completely different outlook on their own value and opportunities.
