Tenancy Support

Preventing tenancy failure is an essential element of reducing homelessness.

Our tenancy support programme provides essential ongoing support to service users when they find their new home and for some time thereafter. We also provide support to anyone who is in danger of losing a tenancy or experiencing issues that may affect their ability to stay in their current home – and this is how many people first receive support from Harbour Place.

We are passionate about everyone having a right to a safe and secure home in a good state of repair. At the same time, we recognise that some people need added support for a period so they can adapt to independent living and develop or re-learn the skills needed to sustain a tenancy.

Our support workers are there to help with settling into a new home. They help with practical tasks such as making sure rent is paid, setting up utilities accounts and providing essential items for the new home. This support will continue with advice on keeping the property in good order, ensuring any repairs are reported and carried out, and signposting when specialist help is needed.

Health and wellbeing are important elements is sustaining a tenancy. Our team also helps with GP & Dentist registration services, ensuring that important medical appointments are not missed and that service users continue to engage with other support services during periods of transition.

Of course, those who have moved into accommodation can continue to come to our ‘drop-ins’ at the Hope Centre on any weekday morning for advice on benefits, harm reduction, education, or even just for a coffee and reassurance. We understand a life filled with trauma and disappointment cannot change overnight.

Harbour Place will continue to offer any support for as long as it is needed, helping service users to establish the foundations of a life they want, building resilience and confidence.
